Bottom Fishing
Fluke, Sea Bass, Porgy & Blackfish – Rhode Island’s Finest Bottom Fishing
Fluke Fishing at Its Best. No other port on the East Coast offers Fluke fishing quite like Rhode Island. The Windy is known for producing exceptional catches all season long — exciting, hands-on fishing with plenty of keeper-sized Fluke that make every trip memorable. Fluke fishing kicks off in early May and runs through mid-September, using light tackle and strip baits for steady, action-packed drifts. It’s fun, rewarding, and produces one of the finest meals from the sea. Many of our Fluke trips are paired with Striped Bass, giving anglers a great mix of fishing styles and a cooler full of fresh fillets.
Sea Bass & Porgy Fishing. The bottom fishing action stays hot through mid-June to November, when Sea Bass and Porgies take center stage. These hard-fighting, great-tasting fish share the same rocky bottom habitat, and we target both simultaneously using light tackle and clam or squid baits. The bite is fast, the rods are constantly bending, and the coolers fill quickly. Combining these trips with Striped Bass action makes for a full day of steady fishing and variety that keeps anglers coming back year after year.
Amazing Fall Blackfishing. As autumn settles in and the waters cool, the focus turns to the Blackfish (Tautog) — one of the toughest and tastiest species in the Northeast. Fishing around rocky reefs and wrecks along the Rhode Island coast, we use crab baits on sturdy tackle for drag-pulling battles and true trophy potential. Fall Blackfishing brings crisp weather, calm seas, and some of the best action of the year.
Aboard the Windy, every bottom fishing trip — from the first Fluke of spring to the last Blackfish of fall — celebrates the incredible variety and excitement our local waters have to offer.
How’s that for a day of fishing?
